James Hunnicutt’s entire professional history has been focused on advocating for those who have been taken advantage of and treated unfairly. In fact, his track record for advocacy started even before he passed the Bar. As a law student, James represented clients in consumer advocacy cases as part of the SMU Civil Clinic—Consumer Advocacy Project. This experience was a jumping-off point that led him to the Federal Trade Commission, where he protected everyday Americans by enforcing federal consumer protection laws against deceptive and abusive telemarketers, debt collectors, and other scam artists.
Now at Jackson Spencer, James draws on his consumer protection background to protect employees who have been treated unfairly in the workplace. From discrimination and harassment, to equal pay, overtime and medical leave, James has achieved courtroom victories for his clients who have been wronged by their employers. In addition to representing clients in state and federal courts, James has extensive experience representing clients before various government agencies, including the Texas Workforce Commission, Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
His extensive litigation experience also informs his negotiation strategies, understanding when it’s in his clients’ best interests to take their cases to the conference table rather than the courtroom.
Whether the situation involves a severance agreement, handling whistleblower protections, or a myriad of other employment and labor issues, James works aggressively and thoroughly to vindicate employees’ rights.
